That being said I doubt many people will buy Toca 3 if they read this thread in advance. You explain it so people will not point a finger at your hardware which is a good thing.

However, how it impacts your gameplay is pretty much the same as input lag in how bad the car reacts while countersteering. It's a restriction on the maximum rate of turn on the wheels. If you turn at a slow rate neither game appears to suffer from it. Saying that gets responses like "My races are just fine, you must have a slow graphics card or something" as people who's racing style doesn't involve countersteering much (or don't recognize how a car should countersteer) will notice little lag. Penfold: Ya, Toca 3 could've been a much better game, it's a pity. Now I'm all for making a keyboard drive nice but not at the expense of a usable wheel. He plays online all the time and the guys that are the fastest are using keyboards not wheels. I do not have this game myself but a friend does. Another sure way to tell is by driving with a keyboard as its easier to drive and in most cases you will have lower lap times. Many Toca 3 cars are not drivable because of wheel input lag. I never tried Toca 2 so I have no idea how it feels. I agree 100%, this is obvious to anyone with a wheel. Penfold: Here is a bug notification about Toca 3: One can cast their votes for any games here. Please, GOG, if you managed to get a more current version of Toca than Toca 2, would it really be that hard to get Toca 2?

The only reason I have Toca 3 is it came free with a graphics card I purchased a while ago. Because of that, I never purchased Toca 3, as I feel Toca 2 is a better game. When I was intrested in Toca, I tested the 3 demos (for 1, 2, and 3) and asked other users if Toca 3 had the bug the demo did, and sure enough it did. HOWEVER, it is even more unrealistic not to have your front wheels in sync with your steering wheel!Īlso, Toca 2 has some good "street" or NFS-esque races without all the grass, and some nice iced over races as well, AFAIK, Toca 3 doesn't have these equivalents. Some might argue "It's not realistic to be able to turn your front wheels that fast." True. This is the case with Toca 3 with the latest patch, and unpatched (I have the DRM version, and have tried to find a way to get it to work with no success) In Toca 3, I sometimes need to countersteer, then countersteer again the opposite direction, as I get loose again, and maybe even a third time in the opposite direction. I can intentionally get loose in Toca 2 and countersteer and regain control.
This will haunt you in Toca 3 when you countersteer, it's harder to correct a corner you take bad. If you turn slowly, you won't notice anything. In Toca 2, it is in sync, in Toca 3, the maximum turn rate prevents sync at a fast rate.

Now, without even going anywhere, jerk the wheel fast from full left to full right, or vice versa and watch your car's front wheels while you do so.
Switch the camera to the out of car view. Start a race with a steering wheel properly configured, with an open-wheeled car. This function clearly has it's place (very nice for keyboard use), but should clearly be disabled once you select "Steering Wheel" as your input device. In Toca 3, this is NOT the case, there is a maximum rate of turn (I'm NOT talking about lag or framerate issues) that's probably something they didn't think to remove from the console port (included to smooth out jerky analog stick movements). In Toca 2, if you jerk the wheel fast to countersteer, your front wheels will turn in sync with your steering wheel.

Toca 3 has a steering wheel bug that I have not discovered a fix for (if anyone knows how, let me know, but I don't think it's solveable without access to source code or a brilliant hacker)
